Fragmented Seahorse (wood print | black on wood background)Seahorses like so many creatures in the sea are almost other worldly. This piece is as much about a seahorse and their many segments as it is about how reality can seem fragmented. How things can be so familiar, similar, and alien at the same time. I really like the contrast in textures and color that I achieved with this piece. I wanted to show a high contrast of light and dark but I also wanted a contrast between organic and non organic textures.

I once read of an ancient myth that the earth was formed on the back of a turtle traveling through the cosmos

So I added a kind of antique wallpaper pattern to a sunburst of melaleuca tree bark

My originals are hand drawn graphite on smooth Bristol paper and come framed in a frame that I buy from Michael’s with a 40% off coupon

The elephants skin was inspired a a type of sea coral and I added the fire to add a sense of luck that is smoldering under the surface almost unattainable
